CHILDREN'S MINISTRY CO-DIRECTOR


MINISTRY STATEMENT:  

MTP Kids’ Ministry will be a place where kids have the opportunity to see God for who He is, see themselves the way God sees them, and love others the way God does. “Love God. Love People. Love Life” are the principles that drive all areas of this ministry.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Professes and demonstrates a passionate faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Leads a life of vibrant discipleship and models a healthy balance between God, self, family, and ministry.
  • Must be able to demonstrate abilities in recruitment, equipping, and training in ministry.
  • A college degree with a minimum of 2 years church leadership experience is preferred, but other combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge and skills for effective ministry are also acceptable.
  • Exceptional people skills: listening, communicating, developing trust and rapport.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Social media abilities essential.
  • Is organized, self-motivated and able to motivate others.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a team-based environment utilizing the development of goals and objectives with strategic planning.
  • Is comfortable working with and relating to a wide range of people from children to mature adults both inside and outside the church.
  • Prioritizes “equipping others for ministry,” over “doing ministry personally,” by mentoring and discipling leaders and others.
  • Is comfortable and knowledgeable with different models of ministry and strives to provide ministry that is relevant, dynamic, and Christ-centered.
  • Is willing to support, uphold and teach Wesleyan/Methodist theology. 

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Must be personally growing in a relationship with Christ and able to lead others in that journey.
  • Work alongside the Children’s Ministry Co-Director (A) to develop, promote, and oversee year-round programming for children (birth thru 5th grade) and their families, ensuring that opportunities for the care and/or discipleship growth of newborn thru 5th grade will occur on Sunday mornings.
  • Work alongside the Children’s Ministry Co-Director (A) to develop outreach events throughout the year.
  • Will be the primary “up front” person for Children’s Ministry gatherings and events.
  • Plans, schedules and leads (or makes arrangements for) Tweenz (school year) and Bible Explorers (January-March).
  • Will recruit, equip, develop, and provide on-going support and scheduling for volunteers.
  • Agrees to confidentiality regarding church, staff, financial or other sensitive information or issues with whom she/he interacts with on and off the job.
  • Will partner with families in providing kids with a solid foundation of Biblical knowledge, connections with other families, and opportunities to serve and love others.
  • Effectively responds to and follows-up with inquiries or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Must work within financial guidelines as established in the yearly budget process.
  • Committed to the safety and security of children and volunteers by following all guidelines provided by Safe Sanctuaries and other child protection policies, including performing background checks for every volunteer prior to serving. 
  • Provide excellent communication practices to keep all parties informed and updated. Works alongside the rest of the staff to provide all-church and social media communications.
  • Cultivates partnerships with appropriate schools and other community organizations.
  • Attends or sends a report to weekly staff meetings.
  • Some weekends and evenings may be necessary depending on planned programming schedule.
  • Coordinates with the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and the Trustee Chairperson to ensure that the Kids Ministry Area is clean and sanitized, child friendly, and welcoming to all.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to Lead Pastor and Children’s Leadership Team (CLT)
  • Evaluated by Lead Pastor and representatives of SPRC/Leadership Council
  • Minister to children and their parents
  • Supervisor and mentor to ministry volunteers
  • Works closely with the Student Minister, especially in the area of transition
  • Active encourager to the congregation of Mount Pleasant UMC
  • Team player with the entire staff
